After running all over town yesterday with Uncle Jeff, my parents thought I wouldn't mind running errands with them today. We went to a craft store, a hardware store and the grocery store. Despite getting in and out of the car so many times, I was happy to run around wherever my parents wanted to take me. I'm also starting to get to be quite the girly girl with my beads and my big poufy skirt. I'll dance anytime, anywhere but it's a lot more fun with the skirt!

Today my parents and I went with "Uncle" Jeff to help him find an apartment. Now that his son has graduated high school and is off to college - he is selling his condo and finding a smaller apartment. It's great because he is going to move closer to us! We got to tour a couple apartment complexes and Uncle Jeff found the perfect one. So perfect he even put down a deposit! And I was such a good girl that while we waited in the lobby, my parents let me have a glass of water and a few bites of cookie like a big girl. I was relatively good at Chili's for lunch - my favorite thing was taking small sips of Mommy's coffee (Mommy's family starts kids young on the stuff). But by the time lunch was over I was ready for a nap.

I had a great visit today with my hard of hearing teacher. Because she will be off for the summer, I got four new Signing Time videos to watch until she comes back to work in early August.

My parents are continuing to encourage me to cover my trach when talking and they are asking me to talk more often. Here I am saying "mmmm"!

After some tips from the feeding therapist yesterday, Mommy and Daddy tried some new tricks with me today. First, when I wanted "more" of something or "down" or wanted to say "hi", my parents would ask me to use my voice instead of my signs. Since I don't like my speaking valve very well, they figured I could just cover my trach instead and then make a sound to get what I want. Well it may not sound like "more" or "down" or "hi" but I caught on quickly and I make a sound in addition to the sign while covering my trach. My parents are hoping that as I use my voice more I will start to get more practice and start saying actual words instead of just vowel sounds.

I am also very defensive when Daddy pulls the toothbrush out. Karen suggested that my parents try mixing up the routine a little. So instead of holding me down to brush my teeth, Daddy let me sit up and brush my own teeth. Every now and again, I would let Daddy brush my teeth a tiny bit too. My parents are also going to try an electric toothbrush to see if that makes tooth brushing time more fun than scary!

My Aunt Kristin got me a book for my surgery that was really fun. It was supposed to be like my Mommy's purse (if my Mommy carried a purse). It even had a page with a dry erase marker. I decided rather then drawing on the book my shirt (and the entertainment center) were much more fun to draw on. So thanks Aunt Kristin! (Actually, the marker came off the entertainment center but the jury is still out on the clothes).

Mommy's number finally came up - literally - and she was off to jury duty today. She got called as a potential juror for the second case in the docket for the day. Mommy isn't sure on all the deatils of the case - but it involved three young men and the judge anticipated a 2-3 week trial. Mommy got excused though so after sitting in a waiting area for 8 hours she got to home and she shouldn't get called in again for at least 18 months.
Here I am kissing my cousin Jackson or biting him - whichever way you want to look at it!

Okay, so more of the ice cream probably ended up on my face then it did in my mouth but it was fun while it lasted! It all started when I asked Mommy for some ice cream. Since Daddy was on his way home from work, Mommy told me I would have to wait until he came home (she figured I could eat my ice cream while they ate dinner). So as soon as I heard the dogs barking at the back door, I ran down the hall. No "hi Daddy" or "how was your day Daddy" it was "ice cream Daddy"! In 20+ minutes since Mommy had told me to wait, I hadn't forgotten.

After my ice cream bath I got cleaned up and the three of us headed to the park. I love the swings but today I spent quite a bit of time going down the slide. I even got to the point that I would go down the little slide all by myself. My parents just had to remind me to go down on my bottom!
